The great escape
Africa 1944-1948
Final project
Advised by Ada Vardi and Shy Golan
In 1944, 251 Political Prisoners suspected of belonging to the Jewish Resistance groups Etzel and Lehi, were exiled by the British Mandate to prison camps in Africa. My Grandfather, Yehuda Borochov, was one of them, and was responsible for documenting and archiving the camps. My project moves between two parallel, primary concepts. The first is the unconcealed historical story, and the second is the hidden narratives, containing riddles, encryptions, encodings, and unknown objects woven throughout the story. In every section there is a riddle, and I unravel it, bringing forth an explanation.
